Most professional development seminars and workshops are held at the Upper School in East Hampton. Participants can arrange to tour the campus and have lunch or breakfast in our spectacular café.
Ross School inhabits a unique set of facilities on two campuses. The Lower School campus serves children from Pre-Nursery through Fourth Grade in a beautiful agricultural region in Bridgehampton. Nestled in oak woodlands just seven miles away, the East Hampton campus serves Fifth Grade through Twelfth Grade.
Both campuses are comprised of a number of buildings thoughtfully placed within natural settings. Buildings are designed with an emphasis on the interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces and provide natural daylight. Meeting spaces abound, each with a different character, used for both planned and chance interactions that typify the collaborative Ross experience, or for respite and reflection. Learning spaces reflect an intentional educational and aesthetic standard. Flexible learning spaces accommodate situations ranging from small group instruction to formal lectures, large group read-alouds to multimedia presentations. Neutral colors that allow the students and learning to take center stage are complemented by the textures of natural materials such as wood and stone. Original art and artifacts and museum-quality reproductions are found throughout and are used in support of the curriculum. Everything in the environment invites engagement, examination, and exploration.
The Middle and High Schools in East Hampton are organized around a path through the woods, so that movement around the campus includes time outside in nature and offers the occasion for impromptu conversations and exchanges of ideas. In addition to classrooms, each building has a distinct aesthetic and function. The Upper School building houses a large library, a technology lab, art studio for painting and printmaking, and a film viewing area called the Duomo. The Media and Humanities Pavilion contains performance practice rooms and professionally equipped sound recording studios, a state-of-the-art video production and editing studio, and the sculpture and ceramics studio. A reference library, a darkroom and digital photography editing studio, and a lecture hall equipped for multimedia presentations are found in the Senior Thesis building. The Center for Well-Being is home to the treetop Café, the multi-purpose Great Hall and Court Theater, and spaces for movement and meditation. Wireless connections are available all over campus, allowing students and faculty to connect to each other and to the outside world.
